Vashon Center View in Green and Blue

A view of the giant walnut trees on the corner at Vashon Center.  I was trying to keep the painting high key (light value).  This painting will be at Bergamot Home during May and June and during the Vashon Spring Arts Tour.    Bergamot home is located at the Burton Corner at 23927 Vashon Hwy SW Vashon, WA 98070

White and Yellow Jonquil on Turquoise

The first daffodils this spring were yellow, but then came the multicolored jonquils, with white, yellow, orange or pink centers.  This one had been bent over by spring rains so I brought it inside to paint.   I like the descriptive lights on the flower.

Daffodil Bouquet on Dark Green

Another painting of the super sale daffodils, this time with a dark background. My aim was to paint the daffodils recognizably yet without too much detail, so that the flowers were just masses of lights and medium tones.

White and Yellow Daffodils on Brown

It was late and I needed to get out of the studio so I gave myself just an hour to paint this one.  No fussing, no adjusting, just leave it alone.  And I think it turned out better than the ones I labor over.  I like the waterline in the glass jar.

White and yellow Jonquils on Gray

A painting of the white and yellow jonquils that my daughter planted in the flower bed.  This was painted on a smooth gessoboard panel. I used a rubber tool to wipe out the bright waterline in the glass jar.  Just like fingerpainting.

Daffodil Bouquet in a Canning Jar SOLD

The grocery store had a special on daffodils so I bought bunches and am painting daffodils like mad.  I like how this becomes just one large mass of light and dark yellows.  I tried to keep it high key to match the lightness of the flowers.

Yakima View

Painted from photos I took on a trip through Yakima a couple of years ago.  I like the color of the distant hills and the highlights on the roofs. Feels sunny and warm.

Sailboats in Quartermaster Harbor SOLD

A view east across Quartermaster Harbor towards Portage and the hills of West Seattle.  The sun is behind the viewer, the water hills and sky are a gorgeous blue.  I like the limited color scheme.  I think blue is a cool color but the painting feels sunny and warm to me.

Two Northend Ferries at Sunset SOLD

A view of two ferries at the north end of Vashon.  Late afternoon sun has turned the sky and water shades of gold and purple.
This painting will be in the VAA's Archive Art Sale on the weekend of May 24-26 here on Vashon Island.  (The painting is 10" x 20")

Madronas and Late Afternoon Sun

Painted in my yard - a view through the madronas across Quartermaster Harbor and the southern end of Vashon Island.  I really like the way the bottom of the hill dissolves into the water.
I just posted this one to my Etsy store: Click here to see listing.
